The nations participating in this agreement are Belgium, Estonia, France, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Norway (excluding Svalbard), Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden.

Based on this policy, four types of visa have been brought up for the third-country nationals. These are category A, B, C and D visas based on the duration for which the person wants to stay in this zone.

In addition, this visa will be validated when the visa applicant presents a Schengen visa insurance certificate having adequate medical coverage and which must be valid throughout the stay of the person in the Schengen zone.

A guide describing different classes of Schengen visa

The Schengen region has set up a uniform visa system that differentiates the categories of visa.

The visa category A is an airport transit visa. It is relevant for the citizens of those countries which do not form part of Visa waiver agreement and are required to get Schengen visa to travel in this area. The type B visa is also a transit visa. The person who has to transit through the area of one or more Schengen visa countries before going to a third country can apply for this visa kind. The holder of this transit visa is permitted to use overland transport for the purpose of transiting. This visa may be put through routing limitations.
